SAP S/4HANA EWM Outbound Process

This blog will discuss about customer order outbound process in SAP EWM.

SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) offers advanced functionality to manage and optimize warehouse processes, including the outbound delivery process. Here's a detailed overview of the outbound process.

Overview SAP EWM Outbound Delivery Process:

1. Sales Order Creation in SAP S/4HANA

  • Transaction: VA01

  • A sales order is created in the SAP ERP system, capturing customer demand.

  • Integration with EWM allows the outbound delivery request to flow seamlessly from the ERP to the EWM system.

2. Outbound Delivery Request Creation

  • An Outbound Delivery Request (ODR) is automatically created in EWM when the sales order or delivery is processed in ERP.

  • This serves as the starting point for outbound processing in EWM.

3. Outbound Delivery Order Creation

  • The system converts the Outbound Delivery Request into an Outbound Delivery Order (ODO).

  • The ODO contains:

    • Delivery priorities

    • Picking locations

    • Quantities and materials to be picked

4. Warehouse Task Creation

  • Transaction: /SCWM/WT

  • Warehouse tasks are generated for picking goods based on the ODO.

  • These tasks guide warehouse operators to retrieve items from specific storage bins.

  • Picking strategies (e.g., FIFO, batch picking) are applied.

5. Picking

  • Execution Tool: RF Devices (Radio Frequency) or SAP Fiori Apps

  • Warehouse operators execute picking tasks using RF devices or mobile apps.

  • Once picked, goods are moved to a staging area near the shipping dock.

6. Packing

  • Transaction: /SCWM/PACK

  • Goods are packed into handling units (HUs) such as cartons or pallets.

  • Packing details, such as weight, dimensions, and tracking numbers, are updated in EWM.

7. Goods Issue in EWM

  • Transaction: /SCWM/PRDO (Process Outbound Delivery Order)

  • The system confirms the outbound delivery in EWM.

  • Inventory is updated in the EWM storage bin and sent to ERP for synchronization.

8. Goods Issue in ERP

  • Transaction: VL02N

  • Goods Issue is posted in SAP ERP to:

    • Reduce stock in the financial ledger

    • Update the General Ledger (GL) accounts

    • Trigger subsequent processes, such as invoicing

9. Transportation and Shipment

  • EWM integrates with SAP TM (Transportation Management) to manage shipments.

  • Shipment documents include:

    • Carrier details

    • Route optimization

    • Load planning

10. Delivery Confirmation

  • Optional step to confirm delivery to the customer.

Key Features of SAP EWM in Outbound Delivery:

  1. Advanced Picking Strategies:

    • Supports multiple picking methods, such as wave picking, zone picking, and batch picking.

  2. RF Integration:

    • Real-time task execution and updates using RF devices.

  3. Warehouse Monitor:

    • Real-time visualization of tasks, resource utilization, and delivery statuses.

  4. Yard Management:

    • Coordinates vehicle movements for efficient loading and unloading.

  5. Labor Management:

    • Tracks operator productivity during the outbound process.
